Job Description

The School of Design Production Labs is seeking Monitors from all departments for work in the Laser Lab, a 2D digital fabrication facility equipped with six laser cutters.

 

As a Laser Lab Monitor, you will play a role in supporting the day-to-day operation of this resource under the supervision of the Production Labs Digital Technicians. You will assist students in their understanding and operation of laser cutting equipment, from file setup to machine troubleshooting, while fostering a safe and creative environment around the use of this tool.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly maintaining laser cutters

  • Maintaining a safe environment by confirming proper machine setup and appropriate material usage by student users

  • Proactively providing assistance to support students with laser cutting design considerations, optimizing UCP settings, and operating equipment

  • Creating and updating educational materials and tutorials

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Previous laser cutting experience

  • Illustrator experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for teaching and assisting peers

  • Ability to work collaboratively
