We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Assistant to join our CNC Workshop Lab inside the School of Design here at Pratt Institute. This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience with CNC machinery and laboratory operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Machine Operation

 

  • Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines.

  • Monitor machine performance and report any issues to the lab supervisor.

  • Follow safety protocols and ensure proper use of tools and equipment. 

 

  1. Maintenance and Cleaning

 

 

  • Learn about routine maintenance on CNC equipment and tools.

  • Keep the workshop clean and organized, including routine cleaning and waste disposal.

  1. Support and Assistance

 

 

  • Help faculty, students, and other lab users with equipment setup and operation.

  • Assist in the preparation of materials and parts for machining projects for fellow students and school administered projects. 

  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for machine and equipment issues.

 

  1. Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of machine usage, maintenance activities, and material inventory. 

  • Document and report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.

 

 

  1.  Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations in the workshop.

  • Participate in safety training and ensure compliance with lab policies.

 

 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

 

 

  • Interest and wIllingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and technologies, specifically CNC machining.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.

  • Good organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Previous coursework or experience in engineering, manufacturing, or related field is a plus, but not required. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 30 pounds.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
