Job Description

PRODUCTION GRADUATE ASSISTANT

 

6-8 people, up to 20 hours per week, starting May 26, 2026. All interested graduate students enrolled for classes in any Summer Term 2026 and the Fall 2026 semester are invited to apply.

 

Note: This position is located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

 

AquaSteady is a water-absorbent hydrogel made from seaweed. It helps farmers enhance soil fertility and water retention to protect crops from irregular rainfalls and irrigations. AquaSteady is a cross-disciplinary, multi-establishment research initiative with Phase II funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation Convergence Accelerator. 

 

We’re seeking Production Graduate Assistants to produce the hydrogel in the Pratt Institute Research Yard within the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an interdisciplinary project that combines design and science to create large-scale solutions to complex problems caused by climate change.

Job Requirements

Duties:

  • Manual/physical processing of materials

  • General upkeep of equipment

  • Lab cleaning and maintenance

  • Maintain organizational system for materials, supplies, and equipment

  • Package and label materials

  • Prepare materials for shipping

  • Provide feedback on the usability of equipment and production space 

Skills:

  • Attention to detail

  • Reliable and can maintain consistent hours

  • Ability to perform strenuous repetitive tasks

  • Stand for long periods of time
