Job Description

Position Summary

The Technology Assistant supports the daily operations of the Advanced Technologies computer labs at Pratt Institute. This role provides students with real-world experience working in a high-tech environment with tools such as AI applications, VR headsets, robotic arms, and other emerging technologies. Technology Assistants help ensure labs are accessible, professional, and fully operational, while offering courteous and knowledgeable support to lab users.

 


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist all lab visitors in a professional and welcoming manner.

  • Perform daily equipment and environment checks (projectors, computers, cables, temperature, cleanliness).

  • Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment through the lab’s ticketing system.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of lab spaces, including whiteboards and shared surfaces.

  • Restock lab supplies such as markers, batteries, and cleaners.

  • Support users with login issues and general troubleshooting.

  • Wipe down keyboards, mice, and workstations regularly.

  • Communicate effectively using Slack, email, and shared task tools.

  • Relay ongoing issues to the next shift and keep management informed, always.

    Work Schedule

    This is a part-time, on-campus position. Scheduling is based on lab needs and student availability.

    Technology Assistants gain experience in real lab environments, access to emerging technologies, and opportunities to build technical and interpersonal skills that support future academic or professional endeavors.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic computer troubleshooting (e.g., frozen screens, login problems).

  • Familiarity with A/V equipment, including projectors and AV systems.

  • Ability to follow and enforce lab policies and safety procedures.

  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.

  • Dependability, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Expectations & Conduct

  • Arrive on time and remain until properly relieved.

  • Adhere to policies prohibiting eating, vaping, gaming, and personal calls during shifts.

  • Obtain approval for any shift changes through lab management.
