Access Assistant: This is an Undergraduate Position Learning/Access Center (L/AC) Location: Cannoneer Court 103 Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 9-5 Please read: We are hiring for the following shifts: Tuesdays: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Wednesday: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Thursday: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Friday: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Access Assistants are students who help make Pratt an accessible environment for all. In their role with the Learning/Access Center (L/AC), Access Assistants will facilitate creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for students, especially students with disabilities. Access Assistants also contribute to the administrative functions of the Learning/Access Center (L/AC). Access Assistants may be asked to engage in any or all of the following activities: Maintaining composure, discretion, and confidentiality when dealing with all stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members Help with delivery, set-up, and retrieval of assistive technology to and from classrooms when needed Moving specialized furniture (chairs, small tables, etc.) to the appropriate classrooms at the start of the semester, or as needed throughout the semester Provide training to students on use of SmartPens Assist with checking in and checking out SmartPens and other equipment for students with that accommodation; tracking inventory Provide training to students on use of Kurzweil Prep exam spaces and assist exam coordinator as instructed Assist with administrative functions of the office such as answering phones, greeting visitors to the office, and other duties as assigned by the exam coordinator
Training will be provided for Access Assistants on the L/AC and its resources, and Access Assistants will be expected to engage in their work with a supportive and welcoming approach. All will also undergo FERPA training to learn about the process to protect confidential student information. Necessary skills for this position: Hold accessibility, equity, and diversity as a value Must be in good academic standing Open minded and flexible attitude Excellent communication skills, written and verbal Punctual and responsible Self-starter, ready to jump in and assist; a team player willing to work with a diverse array of students Outgoing, friendly, enjoy working with people, and have a positive and willing attitude Must be knowledgeable about administrative tasks Familiarity with Adobe Software and Google applications are not required, but are extremely helpful Connections class is highly preferred, but not required Furniture assembly skills preferred Job Details: • 4-8 hours per week (please see shift details above) • $16.50/hr Application Instructions: Submit a resume and cover letter via email with the subject line Job Application.
