Job Description

Foundations Lab Graduate Assistant - Design & Fabrication

16-24 hours per week (flexible based on availability) 

5-18-26 to 6-30-26

Schedule

This is an in-person, 2-3 days a week position, 6-8 hours per day. Shifts will be available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 9am-3pm. 

 

Location: Foundation Office, Main Building 406, Brooklyn Campus

 

This is an opportunity for Graduate Students only.

 

This is a good opportunity to practice working closely with a client to design and fabricate bespoke displays. We hope that you will complete this GA position with at least one strong portfolio piece.

Tasks

  • Design, fabricate, and install drawer inserts to display the Foundations Lab pigment collection. 

  • Research materials and fabrication methods. 

  • Under the supervision of the Department Coordinator, liaise with on-campus shops and labs. 

  • Design, fabricate, repair, and/or install additional display items in the Foundations Lab.

 

 
Job Requirements

Candidate qualifications

  • Experience with Illustrator, Blender, and CAD software

  • Experience with three-dimensional design

  • Experience with tools and processes related to CNC cutting, laser, and/or other digital or analog 3D production techniques. Active user of these facilities on Pratt’s Brooklyn Campus.

  • Organized and able to work independently on short-term projects 

  • Interest in museum education, Foundation education, and/or natural sciences is a plus

  • Client-facing design and/or fabrication experience is a plus
