The Graduate Assistant for Engagement, Culture, and Community (ECC) supports the planning, implementation, assessment, and coordination of educational initiatives, community engagement efforts, leadership development opportunities, and campus-wide programming within the Office of Engagement, Culture, and Community at Pratt Institute. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Engagement & Culture, the Graduate Assistant collaborates with students, faculty, staff, Peer Leaders, and campus partners to strengthen institutional connection, student engagement, community participation, and a welcoming campus culture through educational programming, dialogue initiatives, community-centered practices, and collaborative engagement efforts. The Office of Engagement, Culture, and Community (ECC) provides resources, support, advocacy, and educational opportunities that center the experiences and voices of undergraduate and graduate students. Through cultural programming, leadership development, workshops, dialogue initiatives, and campus engagement efforts, ECC promotes student learning, creative expression, institutional connection, and community participation across Pratt’s Brooklyn and Manhattan campuses. The Graduate Assistant plays an active role in supporting ECC’s daily operations, educational programming, assessment efforts, communications strategies, peer engagement initiatives, and collaborative campus partnerships. This role is ideal for a graduate student interested in higher education, student affairs, educational programming, leadership development, community engagement, and campus culture-building. Evening and weekend availability may occasionally be required to support departmental programs and events. The Graduate Assistant responsibilities are organized into four core areas: 1. Educational Programming & Community Engagement (35%) Support the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of educational initiatives, dialogue experiences, cultural programs, and campus-wide engagement efforts aligned with ECC priorities Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, Peer Leaders, and campus partners to strengthen community participation and institutional connection Assist with workshops, trainings, dialogues, cohort experiences, and community-centered learning opportunities Support outreach, communications, and engagement strategies that strengthen student participation and visibility across ECC initiatives Assist with heritage and affinity programming, leadership development opportunities, and collaborative campus initiatives Facilitate peer engagement and community-building experiences that support student connection and belonging
2. Community Space Operations and Event Support (25%) Support the daily operations of The Bridge Lounge by helping maintain a welcoming, accessible, organized, and community-centered environment Assist with operational coordination and implementation support for ECC programs, educational initiatives, and campus events Coordinate event logistics including room setup, technology support, scheduling, reservations, and event breakdown Support inventory tracking, resource management, and communication related to facilities or operational needs Help uphold community standards, shared responsibility practices, and posting guidelines throughout ECC spaces Support collaborative initiatives and campus engagement opportunities connected to The Bridge Lounge
3. Research, Assessment & Communications (25%) Support assessment and evaluation efforts related to student engagement, educational initiatives, and program effectiveness Conduct research related to community engagement, student belonging, campus culture, and higher education best practices Assist with data collection, participation tracking, benchmarking, reporting, and strategic assessment projects Develop communication materials including newsletters, flyers, presentations, social media content, and promotional campaigns Support communication strategies that strengthen participation, outreach, visibility, and campus engagement Maintain departmental records, databases, calendars, and internal documentation
4. Leadership Development & Professional Collaboration (15%) Collaborate with professional staff on departmental initiatives, special projects, and campus engagement efforts Assist with Peer Leader training, leadership development initiatives, and student engagement models Participate in staff meetings, trainings, planning initiatives, and professional development opportunities Contribute to a collaborative and community-centered environment grounded in shared responsibility, professionalism, respect, and engagement Model professionalism, accountability, communication, and positive community engagement across ECC initiatives and the broader Pratt community

Job Requirements |
Required Qualifications Currently enrolled in a graduate program and in good academic standing Availability to work approximately 15–20 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, verbal, and facilitation skills Demonstrated interest in campus engagement, educational programming, leadership development, and community-building Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse perspectives, experiences, and campus constituencies Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment Strong attention to detail, initiative, adaptability, and willingness to learn Understanding of confidentiality and professional practices
Preferred Qualifications Interest in higher education, student affairs, leadership development, educational programming, or community engagement Experience with event planning, student support, facilitation, peer leadership, or cultural programming Experience supporting community-centered initiatives or collaborative campus engagement efforts Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, and digital communication tools Experience with assessment, research, data analysis, or report writing preferred Familiarity with Pratt Institute’s community, resources, and campus culture preferred
